PolTolerances-AC
Dimensions, tolerances and fits for (plastic) parts under application conditions
Dimensions under application conditions
The basis for part development, mould design and production are the service or application conditions. If dimensional changes after production are relevant for the function of the parts, they must be taken into account when defining dimensional position, shift and variation.
The software can also be used without restriction for parts made of other materials.
During the application period of a moulded part (after production), different usage and storage conditions affect dimensional accuracy and function. They lead to dimensional shifts and tolerance changes. If the application conditions (AC) and the resulting dimensional shifts are known and can be assigned to the part, a part pairing (fit) or individual dimensions, the dimensional and tolerance changes can be calculated.
As a rule, dimensions, fits and tolerances are defined based on the application conditions (AC) and must then be transformed to other dimensional reference levels, e.g. the acceptance conditions of part production (FAC). Once the dimensions are available under FAC, DIN ISO 20457 can be used to decide whether, how and under which conditions they can be achieved. This may require refining material decisions for moulded or supplied parts, or correcting mould design and manufacturing process.
These methods for dimensional shifts are not limited to plastic parts. Especially when parts are combined (fits), all dimensions must first be transformed to the same reference system – the software supports you in doing so.
Application conditions and dimensional changes
- Manage application conditions (AC): create, edit, delete
- Several dimensional changes can be defined for each application condition
- Reuse predefined application conditions across projects (managed as a file)
- Calculation algorithms for plastic parts for thermal expansion, thermal contraction and swelling
- Assign application conditions individually to the part, individual dimensions and/or fit reference parts
Projects, dimensions and fits
- Manage projects/(moulded) parts, each in a separate file
- Enter and edit individual dimensions and fits within a project
- Scaled graphical display of fits and individual dimensions including dimensional changes for both reference levels (AC, FAC)
- Instant calculation of dimensions, tolerances and fits in the respective other reference system
- Instant evaluation of dimensions under FAC according to DIN ISO 20457
- Change application conditions, tolerance group, dimensions, deviations and fit data at any time – the effects are visible immediately
- Print the application conditions and all project details
- Usable without an internet connection
- optional: approx. 18,593 commercial products from 32 manufacturers with the most important material data and published property charts

Our colleague Prof. Bernd-Rüdiger Meyer and co-author Dirk Falke have written a reference book on the dimensional accuracy of plastic moulded parts and on DIN 16742, published by Carl Hanser Verlag, Munich.
The most important decision fields of moulded part engineering are material, mould, production and part geometry. These fields and their interrelations are described with respect to the overriding quality criterion of dimensional accuracy. The focus is on material and mould; in addition, tolerance management and the influence of application and production conditions on dimensional accuracy are explained in detail. DIN 16742 is at the centre of the book. A central demand on part developers is the separation of functional tolerances (design tolerances) and production tolerances. Notes on the status of GPS standardisation are given, with particular emphasis on form and position tolerancing of plastic moulded parts. The authors' experience and practical examples support the reader.
